Mucho gusto! Bienvenido! Chef Rand and Tiffani Packer proudly welcome you to an exciting new dining experience - Mekenita Mexican Grille. A restaurant unlike any other in the Tampa Bay area, Mekenita is the happy result of Rand and Tiffani's talent, energy, and passion for Mexican cuisine. Inspired by Oaxacan traditions and fresh Pacific ingredients, Mekenita Mexican Grille's unforgettable flavors, warmly colored rich decor, and impeccable service evoke Mexico's "mi casa es su casa" attitude.

Rand grew up surfing the waves of Southern California and traveled often to Mexico enjoying food from street vendors and restaurants "off the beaten path" - for Rand, the best way to learn authentic Mexican cuisine. Oaxaca, one of Rand and Tiffani's favorite locales (and one of Rand's favorite spots for surf), inspired many of Mekenita's dishes. Chef Rand's unique ingredients - passion fruit, ginger, pasilla chilies, and mole negro sauce, for example – distinguish his singular dishes prepared fresh daily. Along with its bountiful fresh salsa bar, Mekenita offers uncommon enticements such as hand pressed Corn Tortillas, Wahoo Fish Tacos, Smoked Pork Sopes, Mekenita Grande Burrito, Aqua de Frescas (fresh fruit juices) and Paletas (Mexican popsicles). Mekenita Mexican Grille is dedicated to quality, freshness, and guest satisfaction.

Upon graduation from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Rand moved to Hawaii to study "Hawaiian Fusion" at its best with renowned chef Roy Yamaguchi. After 10 years with the Roy's team, as Executive Chef and Partner in Tampa, Rand is embarking on a new restaurant adventure that nurtures his culinary genius and rewards all Mekenita's guests.

Rand and Tiffani Packer opened their first Mekenita Mexican Grille at Van Dyke Commons in 2007. You're invited to join them at their new "casa" for authentic cuisine you'll crave - mi casa es su casa!
